The KKNFA is now a member of The Guild
of One-Name Studies!
The Guild of One-Name Studies is an organization based in the
UK that provides assistance for the research conducted for a single family name,
e.g. Knowles (with the various spelling variations) even though not all people
with the same name are descendants of a single progenitor. Thousands of
surnames are registered with the Guild. Now
Knowles has been registered with the Guild.
A one-name study is a project researching all occurrences of a surname, as
opposed to a particular pedigree (ancestors for one person) or descendancy
(descendants of one person or couple). You can read more about the Guild
in their Introductory Article at:

"Genealogy begins as an
interest, becomes a hobby, continues as an avocation,
takes over as an
obsession, and in its last stage, is an incurable disease."

Footnote: The
picture on this opening page of the K/K/N Family Association Web pages
includes the seven sons of Asa Knoles the grandson of Edmund "Old
Silverhead" Knowles. Asa and his wife, Dorcas Stone also had four
daughters. Three of the daughters died in infancy, and one, Louisa, lived
until she was 99 or 100 years old.
